Product Description

The R35V Rambler Super Single Set in Satin Black is Reika's original van-specific super single wheel — the first alloy super single engineered for the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter dually. Purpose-built to replace the factory dual rear wheel (DRW) setup on the Sprinter 519 (Australian model designation) — also known as the Sprinter 3500 in US markets — on both the current VS30 (907) chassis and earlier NCV3 (906) chassis.

The conversion replaces the factory dually with a single wider wheel per side on the rear axle, reducing unsprung weight, improving traction through a wider contact patch, eliminating debris trapped between dual tyres, and opening up a more capable tyre range for touring, overlanding, motorhome builds and heavy-duty commercial applications.

Load-rated at 1,995 kg per wheel — giving a combined rear axle wheel capacity of 3,990 kg, exceeding the Sprinter 519's factory rear axle mass limit of 3,500–3,600 kg — the R35V is engineered for the real weights Australian van builders, motorhome owners and trade operators are working with.

Australian Compliance

Fitting the R35V Rambler to a Sprinter 519 converts the factory dual rear wheel (DRW) configuration to single rear wheel (SRW). Under Australian regulations this is classified as a vehicle modification and requires engineering certification — but the regulatory pathway depends on the GVM your vehicle is registered at.

Sprinter 519 @ 4.49t GVM — light vehicle pathway (VSB 14)

  • Regulated under VSB 14 (National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification)
  • Certified by a state-based signatory engineer (NSW VSCCS, VIC VASS, QLD AP, WA DoT AVE, SA DIT, etc.)
  • Driveable on a standard car (Class C) licence
  • Modification plate fitted (most states), tyre placard updated, speedometer recoded if rolling diameter outside ADR 18 tolerance

Sprinter 519 @ 5.0t GVM — heavy vehicle pathway (VSB 6)

  • Regulated under the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL) using VSB 6 (NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS, ACT — WA and NT use VSB 6 as the technical guide under their own state laws)
  • Certified by an NHVR Approved Vehicle Examiner (AVE) — not a state VSCCS/VASS signatory
  • Wheel changes fall under Modification Code D3 (rear) and Code E3 (front) of VSB 6
  • Requires a Light Rigid (LR) licence minimum to drive (must hold car licence for 12 months prior)
  • VSB 6 modification plate issued; certificates from one regime are not recognised under the other

Check your compliance plate (driver's door frame or under bonnet) to confirm which GVM rating applies to your vehicle.

Tyre selection

The R35V is a 17×8" wheel replacing the factory 16" Sprinter 519 dually rim. Tyre selection is bounded by the regulatory pathway:

  • 4.49t GVM (VSB 14): Overall tyre diameter can change up to ±7% of the largest tyre on the OEM placard without engineering. Tyre load rating must meet or exceed placard. Tyre speed rating must meet placard (Sprinters are not off-road coded — no N-rating drop allowed). Beyond 7% requires engineering plus speedometer recoding via XENTRY.
  • 5.0t GVM (VSB 6): No automatic 7% allowance. Any non-standard tyre triggers Code D3/E3 certification by an AVE. Tyre rolling diameter changes are also treated as a brake modification under Code G — larger tyres reduce brake force and may require calculations or testing to prove ADR 35/38 deceleration compliance.

Stock Sprinter 519 dually tyre is 235/65R16C (~711 mm overall). The R35V suits LT-rated 17" tyres in the 245/70R17 to 255/70R17 range with load index 121/119 or higher — sized to stay within the 7% ceiling and meet the 1,995 kg per wheel load rating. Always confirm your final tyre selection with your fitter and certifying engineer before purchase.

What the engineering process covers

The process is handled by the licensed workshop or engineer fitting your wheels — not by Reika Wheels Australia. Typical requirements include:

  • Inspection and sign-off by the appropriate certifier (state signatory at 4.49t, NHVR AVE at 5.0t)
  • Updated tyre placard reflecting the new wheel, tyre, offset and load rating
  • Modification plate attached to the vehicle
  • Speedometer recalibration/recoding via XENTRY where rolling diameter changes affect ADR 18 compliance
  • TPMS sensor compatibility confirmation (dual-valve rear wheels accept the factory Sprinter sensor)
  • Brake performance verification (5.0t pathway only — ADR 35/38 deceleration)

Engineering authority by state / territory (4.49t light vehicle pathway):

NSW Transport for NSW VSCCS scheme
VIC VicRoads VASS signatory
QLD TMR Approved Person (AP) scheme — modification plate required
WA DoT Authorised Vehicle Examiner
SA DIT accredited signatory
TAS Transport Services Tasmania
ACT Access Canberra (NSW VSCCS certificates generally accepted)
NT MVR modification sign-off

For 5.0t GVM vehicles, certification is via an NHVR Approved Vehicle Examiner — find one via the NHVR AVE register.

Mercedes-Benz Australia warranty. Fitting aftermarket wheels does not void your full Mercedes-Benz new vehicle warranty under Australian Consumer Law, but Mercedes-Benz is entitled to decline warranty claims on components directly affected by the modification (wheel bearings, hubs, axle, ABS/ESP, TPMS and related systems). Warranty on the Reika wheels themselves is covered by Reika's 3-year structural warranty.

Reika Wheels Australia supplies wheels only. We do not perform fitment, modification work, or vehicle engineering certification. Fitment, compliance and registration of any vehicle modification remains the responsibility of the vehicle owner and their chosen licensed workshop and engineer. Need a signatory engineer or AVE? Contact us and we can refer you to engineers in your state familiar with the Sprinter 519 super single conversion at both GVM ratings.

Warranty

All Reika wheels are covered by a 3-year structural warranty against manufacturing defects. Finish warranty is 1 year under normal use and care.

Warranty does not cover damage caused by improper fitment, accidents, kerb impact, misuse, or off-road damage. Wheels must be fitted by a qualified tyre fitter.

To make a warranty claim, contact us with your proof of purchase and photos of the defect.

Fitment Note

While we strive to provide accurate fitment data, the final responsibility for ensuring correct wheel fitment lies with the purchaser. Please verify your vehicle’s bolt pattern, centre bore, offset, and clearance requirements before ordering. If you are unsure, please contact our support team prior to checkout.

Shipping

In-stock wheels typically process and ship within 1-5 business days. Please note that out of stock wheels will require additional lead time. Once shipped, transit times vary based on your location.
